Construction

At Shingobee Builders, Inc., we are the commercial contractor that stands above all others in the industry with our experienced team and innovative approaches to age-old construction setbacks. Our leaders provide the best commercial construction services and manage each project with close supervision and effective communication, all while ensuring our team members and subcontractors are instilling safe construction practices while on each job site.

Experienced Supervision

Shingobee provides on-site supervision for every job, by some of the most experienced construction superintendents in the business. They ensure overall daily project control, coordination, and security. Along with the rest of the project team, the superintendent manages all aspects of the construction jobsite, including records and communications, safety coordination, contractor coordination, shop drawings and samples, and schedule control.

One of our highest priorities at Shingobee is to provide the owner and architect with the highest quality product possible. A continuous process of milestone quality control inspections and daily field reports, both of which are communicated to the owner and architect, establish the quality parameters intended during the daily construction activities.

We consistently make ourselves available to the entire team and the demands of the project. We desire to work closely with the design team throughout the process to integrate design, cost value, engineering, and constructability. Our end goal: to get the project done efficiently, on schedule, and with the highest quality in all areas of the project.

Industry Leaders

As the building construction industry progresses, so does the technology used. Shingobee is fluent in Building Information Modeling and has the ability to allocate the necessary resources to this important tool. The modeling software is rapidly transforming complex building processes, which include accelerating project completion, lowering costs, and improving overall quality. The BIM process is an excellent visualization and communication tool that leads to early identification of trade conflicts – a proven process for virtually eliminating the field problems associated with all construction component coordination. BIM can calculate how a proposed change will affect subcontractor costs and scheduling. BIM has clear benefit on large projects for coordination of work during construction, quality of construction, and potentially decreased costs. Every detail of the building’s pre-construction and construction processes can be expressed in BIM, allowing for a more timely and cost-effective solution for both the team members and building owner. Shingobee works closely with the design team to implement the technology for each project.

Shingobee has been implementing sustainable design and construction practices throughout its history, and we have completed numerous projects that incorporated sustainable and/or energy efficient design. Several of our project managers are LEED Accredited Professionals or Green Globes Professional. Typically, as Construction Manager, our role on such projects includes

  • Cost comparisons for use in evaluating materials
  • Life cycle cost analysis for the owner
  • Analyzing the cost/benefit of the building’s energy management system
  • Sorting and recycling of waste on the jobsite

Safety

Shingobee maintains a commitment to safety that focuses on preserving the welfare of our employees, subcontractor teams, clients, and other team members who visit our job sites. Our superintendents, project managers, and staff work to ensure safe and healthy working conditions, to instruct employees in safe practices, and to inform workers of any workplace hazards. Shingobee is proud of its safety record. With thousands of employee man-hours logged in recent years, we have had zero lost-time incidents. The commitment from upper management to implement training and inspection programs has been very successful, and Shingobee has been recognized with numerous safety awards by organizations in our industry.

Shingobee has entered into a Cooperative Compliance Partnership agreement with Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA).

Provided under an agreement between MNOSHA Compliance and the Minnesota Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (MN ABC), the partnership recognizes contractors where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health management systems that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards, resulting in immediate and long-term prevention of job related injuries and illnesses.

To date, six of Shingobee’s projects have participated in the Partnership inspection program: Phalen Village in St. Paul, MN (2019); Residence Inn in Eagan, MN (2018); Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Woodbury, MN (2018); the Courtyard Marriott in St. Louis Park, MN (2017); Paradise Car Wash in Maple Grove, MN (2014); and International School Residence Hall in Eden Prairie, MN (2013).

Shingobee Builders was the first company to achieve Level 3 Cooperative Compliance Partnership under MNOSHA’s partnership program with the Minnesota chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. Level 3 is the peak level of such partnerships, with applicants striving to be an industry leader with a very comprehensive safety and health program.

“Shingobee Builders is honored to be partnering with Minnesota OSHA on this important safety initiative. As a company, we place a high priority on safety at our jobsites. We look forward to working in cooperation with the MNOSHA team to improve our site safety programs, and educate our employees and trade partners on safe practices.” Seth Miezwa, Shingobee Safety Director

Safety is an ongoing priority at Shingobee Builders. All project managers, superintendents, carpenters, and laborers have completed OSHA 10-hour training, keep current on First Aid Training, and receive additional equipment training as required. Our Safety Policy and AWAIR policy are reviewed and updated annually. We place high importance on accurate record keeping for safety related items (i.e. OSHA 300 logs, employee training logs, SDS information) and continuously work to improve these systems. We also require all of our partners and trades to follow the same commitment toward worker safety and health.

Shingobee is dedicated to following all local, state, and national safety regulations whenever we are contributing our efforts to a project. We recognize that new codes and regulations are evolving and improving, and we keep up to date on each one. Through our progressive safety programs and techniques, we are continuing to raise the bar by applying innovative processes and the latest technology.
