Before

Making Innovative Changes

The retail landscape of convenience stores is changing. For decades, consumers have relied on stores’ quick fare to fuel them through the day. Coffee, snacks, a cold drink, or even a quick lunch have all been staples of the convenience store experience. In the midst of a changing retail environment, however, convenience stores are finding their approach must change, too.

Fortunately, they’ve found ways to keep up with the competition. Stores across the country are now serving customers with a more personal, interactive and consumer-focused approach. Made-to-order wraps, sandwiches, burritos, and flatbreads are making an appearance at many stores nationwide. Some stores are implementing online ordering, and to compete with the rising trend of health-conscious fare, many stores are implementing higher quality ingredients. Convenience stores are evolving to meet the demands of consumers. As project management professionals, we recognize the need for this evolution. Our goal is to assist our clients with these changes by bringing every project from start to a successful finish.

Evolution of a Convenience Store

In 2017, Shingobee provided construction and project management services for Orton Oil Company’s Cenex store in Bemidji, Minnesota. Working closely with the owner, our project manager provided options that were able to keep the project within its intended budget. A complete remodel of both the interior and exterior of the store resulted in a visually appealing and more convenient retail operation. Additional cooler and freezer space were added, along with new kitchen facilities and bathrooms. In addition to the remodel, Shingobee provided additional construction for a car wash and mechanical room. The construction was executed with complete transparency, resulting in a cost-effective and successful project.
